CHALLENGE
_____
To develop a viable solution, we studied the disposal processes of furniture in general, as well as existing IKEA processes that could somehow inspire or collaborate in a new disposal-pickup-recycling process for unwanted IKEA furniture, in this case, BILLY Bookcases.
After an extensive research, particleboard recycling proved to be the most viable and efficient alternative.
Pilot Project: BILLY Bookcase in NYC
This project aims to implement a new process in IKEA products’ lifecycle in order to:
-
reduce the amount of IKEA products ending up in landfills;
-
promote short and long term cost savings in the process of particleboard acquisition.
